About Sherry Shieh
Sherry Shieh is a young aspiring composer born in Taiwan but left at an early stage, only to return years later with intriguing educational backgrounds and experiences from the West. As much as having been known as modern, avant-garde and experimental, Sherry is however, a person also rooted in Chinese traditions and values. Her artistic sensitivities adopt both the East and West; it is not difficult to see this cross-over, clashing style in all her compositions, writings, drawings, and other miscellaneous creations.

Sherry became the youngest Master Graduate at Indiana University School of Music in 2001.At 12, Sherry was presented to Prince Philip of England for outstanding musical achievement. In 1993 Sherry served as an accompanist to the St. George's Choir and was invited to perform at Audrey Hepburn's funeral in Switzerland.

An enthusiastic participant of music festivals, Sherry attended The Aspen Music, International Mozarteum at Salzburg, and many others in her teens. At age 23, Sherry studied with maestro Anthony di Bonaventura as his youngest ph.D student at Boston University. In 2004, Sherry played three acclaimed concerts in Taipei, and six in France -Nancy Festival, to which she dedicated her work Les Trois Visions d'un Oiseau Oriental. In 2005 Sherry premiered three major works. Her National debut concerts took place in Taiwan's National Hall November 2005; premiering her works Dynasty and Les Trois Visions d'un Oiseau Oriental, both receiving acclaimed reviews from audience and scholars alike.

In 2005, Sherry was accepted by Oscar winning composer Luis Bacalov for Film Composition (Award-winning composer for the movie Il Postino, Kill Bill, The Dust Factory etc among many others). Sherry was Bacalov's very first student from Taiwan, and the only composer from Asia. Her music for the Italian movie La Regina degli Scacchi and Kubrick's classic 2001:A Space Odessey have been awarded the Emma Constabile Prize of the Festival.

In 2007 Sherry opened a column in MUZIK- no.1 classical magazine in Taiwan. Since then she has been giving speeches and seminars on films, classical and contemporary music, which received a wide appeal among the general public in Taiwan.

Sherry's current projects include an Oriental-themed CD album(comprising Dynasty and Les Trois Visions d'un Oiseau Oriental), and a contemporary ballet THE GATE- commissioned by IntoArts Dance Group, local contemporary ballet group based in Tainan. The tour will start at end of August all over Taiwan, later S.E Asia and Europe.
